Overview

Wylie ISD is a great place for children! While the rapid growth we faced just a few years ago has slowed, we remain a highly sought after district for new families looking for advanced academics, strong character development and a variety of extracurricular activities. The forecast for growth is very optimistic, with new developments taking shape in all corners of the district.

In keeping with the Board’s goal of managing growth in a way that provides functional equity, financial responsibility and assurance for all student needs we have proposed a rezoning plan that impacts the fewest number of students and their families while providing much needed relief at our most crowded campuses.

Boundary Changes

The Board of Trustees reviewed this plan during a workshop on October 21. Highlights of this presentation can be viewed here:

As you can see projections show enrollment will continue to grow across most of the District over the next 10 years. Adjusting the attendance zones now is a necessary change to minimize the overall community impact. These changes will allow us to better balance this growth for several more years before we have to consider a bond proposal to meet construction and maintenance needs.

Without the associated zoning changes, the overcrowding situations at Tibbals Elementary, Whitt Elementary and Draper Intermediate will continue to grow and strain the resources available on those campuses.

Final Decision

The Trustees took the final approving vote on this decision at the January, 20, 2014 board meeting.
